With school starting this month, we are profiling some new teachers at all five public school districts in Fayette County. This week we look at Flatonia.

Dana Kulak is the new 6th grade math teacher at Hermes Intermediate School in La Grange. She grew up in Boling, down in Wharton County. “It’s got a four-way stop,” Kulak said. It also has an ISD spread over three communities: Boling, Iago and Newgulf.

The Oak Motel, 227 S. Jefferson, La Grange’s only downtown motel, is getting a facelift and do-over courtesy of new owners Tony Van Wisse and Brady Smith. Van Wisse already owns the Best Western in town as well as the Wolff Motel in Gonzales.

Local CHB Land Management consultant Donnie Dippel, along with his wife Kay and son Dustin are preparing to open their new place of business in a 12,000 square foot building on the bluff near the radio station.

The mission of the Master Naturalist program is “to develop a corps of well-informed volunteers to provide education, outreach, and service dedicated to the beneficial management of natural resources and natural areas within their communities for the State of Texas.”

Antonia Chandler is a Master of Music candidate at the Yale School of Music, studying horn performance with William Purvis.
Originally from Seattle Washington, Antonia received a Bachelor of Music from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music where she studied with Roland Pandolfi.
