For the past 16 years, the American Medical Society and the Breakfast Lions Club of La Grange have donated bike helmets for first graders at Hermes and Sacred Heart schools.
“This is our big community project,” Lion (and La Grange school superintendent) Bill Wagner said Thursday.

The Fayette County Community Theater will present its second production, “Mama Won’t Fly,” May 12 and 13 at 7 p.m. and a special Mothers Day matinee at 3 p.m. on May 14 in the Historic Casino Hall theater.

Jessie Neuendorff of Fayetteville works for Richards/ Carlberg, the advertising agency for Blue Bell Creameries. “We’ve been working for over four months on a campaign for Blue Bell and launched TV and radio April 3,” Neuendorff said Friday. All casting for the promotion was done locally.

Two guinea fowl escorted my car up the quarter-mile caliche road to the Jersey Barnyard on SH 159 Friday morning. The parking lot was full of cars and a school bus from Sweet Home ISD. A farm wagon full of schoolkids was just pulling out for a tour.

For ten years during his career with La Grange ISD, Eugene Winkler combined teaching with driving a school bus.
Winkler, who is now 85 and lives in La Grange with his wife Faye, recently sat down with an FCR reporter and family members to recall some incidents from that time.
