Residents and property owners in the City of Schulenburg will pay more in property taxes and may see utility fees increase in the coming fiscal year. The City Council approved the 2017-18 tax rate and budget at a meeting on Monday, Sept. 18.
At a La Grange City Council meeting on Monday, Sept. 25, City manager Shawn Raborn said the City has incurred $183,201 in expenses related to the flood so far. He estimated the City will incur another $100,000 before the fiscal year ends next month.
A few businesses may be coming to Mark Massey’s “Compound” development near Round Top. Massey appeared at a Fayette County Commissioners Court meeting on Monday, Sept. 25, to answer questions about his application for a land subdivision at the Compound property.
Just sworn-in La Grange police office Bret D. Meinardus brings a lot to the table. To start with, he was born in the city and graduated LGHS in 2009. His parents are Cheryl and Kenny Schmidt of La Grange and Dale Meinardus of Fayetteville.
Former Flatonia Police Chief Mike Noak has been indicted for theft of a firearm by a public servant. A Fayette County Grand Jury returned the indictment on Thursday, Sept. 21.

A Fayette County Grand Jury indicted 21-year-old Dylan David Nelson of Houston for the murder of Jeremy Cornwell. Cornwell, a 43-year-old La Grange plumber, was found shot to death on July 6 at his home on Creamer Creek Road.
